I’m tearing the traditional approach to writing a logline down to the studs to help you create one that is actually going to sell people on your story.
Great piece. As someone who has written over three thousand, it still can be a real challenge when you don’t start off your script with one https://www.instagram.com/freemovieideas
"A mad scientist discovers a corpse on their storm-tossed mid-ocean research vessel and must prove their own innocence and stop the killer before the storm ends and officials arrive to impound the ship, crew, and Earth-saving inventions."
This is fantastically useful, Lauren. clearly, a lot of work involved, but then if you want to get a film made, a lot of work is definitely worth it. Your rewrite of the Stranger Than Fiction log line is brilliant!
I've never heard of all this before, but I thought I'd give it a go. (Don't worry, I won't give up my day job. 😂) Can you guess what the last one's for?
The sun falling heavy toward dusk, a screenwriter must save her contemporaries from career suicide before it's too late.
As dawn's amber glow rises, a screenwriter completely changes how movies are made.
Risking everything for his last hope of realizing his big break, an impassioned stage director casts well-meaning misfits to tell the tall tale of their (un)conventional town's founding.

Damn! I'm sure that's some kind of Guinness World Record! :)

Great post! Thanks for the advice!
Thanks so much for reading. The stakes are sky-high in this logline! It definitely makes me want to see the final film.

Thanks so much for reading, Ros! I really appreciate your words.
Wow impressive to go so deep on this topic!
Thanks, Bill. Writing TV movies made it necessary to perfect this process (cause I have 4 weeks to write the first draft!)
1. The example of two versions of 'The Lion King' = brilliant. ✔
2. One of the best loglines ever was/is for 'Army Of Darkness' = 'Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas.'
1. Thanks so much!
2. Now that makes me wanna drop everything and watch Ash kick some ash :D

Writing loglines can actually be such a fun exercise as long as it's just for fun :D
There's a lot of hard-won knowledge in this article. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks so much for reading! Hard-won is the right adjective ;D
